CCDC HISTORY
Created as the Boise Redevelopment Agency (B.R.A.), the agency’s intent since 1965 has been to eliminate blight, promote development and fuel economic growth in downtown Boise.

2014The Eighth & Main Building was built. The land/building was acquired by CCDC followed by clearance and creation of the building site for this new commercial development.

2012The 30th Street Area urban renewal district was established.

2006The Myrtle Street Garage was constructed by CCDC.

2004The River Myrtle-Old Boise urban renewal district was established. The River Myrtle urban renewal district was amended to include the Old Boise-Eastside Planning Area.

2001The Westside Downtown urban renewal district was established.

2000The City Centre Garage was constructed by CCDC.

1998The Grove Hotel and Bank of America Centre (now Century Link Arena) was built. The land/building was acquired by CCDC followed by clearance and creation of the building site for this new commercial development.

1997The Block 44 (Phase 2 - McCarty Building) and the Union Block Building was renovated. CCDC acquired the building and then disposed of the building through a DDA (Disposition and Development Agreement) with the requirement for a historic renovation and reuse.

1996The Boise City National Bank Building (also known as the Simplot Building) was renovated. CCDC acquired the building and then disposed of the building through a DDA (Disposition and Development Agreement) with the requirement for a historic renovation and reuse.

1995The Capitol Plaza Building (now the Chase Building) was built. The land/building was acquired by CCDC followed by clearance and creation of the building site for this new commercial development.

1994The River-Myrtle urban renewal district was established.

1992CCDC acquired land to assist in the construction of the Broadway-Chinden Connector.

1991The Eastman Retail was built. The land/building was acquired by CCDC followed by clearance and creation of the building site for this new commercial development.

1990The Eastman Garage was constructed by CCDC.

1990The Broadbent Building and the Fidelity Building was renovated. CCDC acquired the building and then disposed of the building through a DDA (Disposition and Development Agreement) with the requirement for a historic renovation and reuse.

1989The W.E. Pierce Building (also known as the Idaho Building) was renovated. CCDC acquired the building and then disposed of the building through a DDA (Disposition and Development Agreement) with the requirement for a historic renovation and reuse.

1989The Key Financial Center was renovated. CCDC entered into a OPA (Owner Participation Agreement) with the property owner for the purpose of renovation and reuse of the property owner's building.

1988The Mode Ltd and Block 44 (Phase 1) was renovated. CCDC acquired the building and then disposed of the building through a DDA (Disposition and Development Agreement) with the requirement for renovation and reuse.

1988The Capitol Terrace Retail and Wells Fargo Center was built. The land/building was acquired by CCDC followed by clearance and creation of the building site for this new commercial development.

1988The Ninth Street Garage was built. The land/building was acquired by CCDC followed by the clearance and creation of the building site for this new public facility.

1988The Boise Centre on the Grove was built. The land/building was acquired by CCDC followed by the clearance and creation of the building site in cooperation with other public agencies.

1988The Capitol Terrace Garage was constructed by CCDC.

1987The Alexander Building was renovated. The BRA acquired the building and then disposed of the building through a DDA (Disposition and Development Agreement) with the requirement for a historic renovation and reuse.

1987The Boise Central urban renewal district was established.

1987The Grove Plaza was constructed by CCDC.

1985The new era of urban renewal: Creating Places with Local Resources. The new vision for Downtown Boise was to be the center of the region; have a strong economy and lively mix of uses; have urban intensity; make it a beautiful, vibrant, walkable, clean and safe place for people; create public spaces; integrate history, arts and culture; and create a multimodal transportation system.

1985The Boise Redevelopment Agency (BRA) was renamed to Capital City Development Corporation (CCDC) with a new vision, new plan, new method of financing, and new approach to urban redevelopment.

1980The Ada County Administration Building was built. The land/building was acquired by the BRA followed by the clearance and creation of the building site in cooperation with other public agencies.

1979The Statehouse Inn and the Idaho First National Bank (now the U.S. Bank Building) was built. The land/building was acquired by the BRA followed by clearance and creation of the building site for this new commercial development.

1979The Egyptian Theatre was renovated. The BRA acquired the building and then disposed of the building through a DDA (Disposition and Development Agreement) with the requirement for a historic renovation and reuse.

1978The Grove Street Garage was constructed by the BRA.

1977Boise City Hall was built. The land/building was acquired by the BRA followed by the clearance and creation of the building site in cooperation with other public agencies.

1976The Sonna Building was renovated. The BRA entered into a OPA (Owner Participation Agreement) with the property owner for the purpose of renovation and reuse of the property owner's building.

1975Citizens of Boise were asked: "How would you like to see Boise in 1984?"

1975The One Capital Center was built. The land/building was acquired by the BRA followed by clearance and creation of the building site for this new commercial development.

1970A second attempt at a regional shopping mall was planned by the BRA. This would encompass 8 blocks of downtown and be completely enclosed, removing the street grid entirely. Parking would be one level below ground for +4 blocks.

1968A regional shopping mall was planned by the BRA. This would encompass 15 blocks of downtown just 2 blocks south of the Capitol Building. The street grid would remain mostly intact and have +6 above ground parking garages.

1965Boise City Council and Mayor Euguene W. Shellworth passed and approved Resolution No. 1154, creating the Boise Redevelopment Agency (BRA) on August 23, 1965.

1965The era of urban renewal: Big Moves with Federal Funds. There was $16.8 Million in federal funds available to Boise. The ideology was to clear the canvas, build a mega project and focus on infrastructure.

1965The Idaho State Legislature enacts House Bill No. 152 known as the Idaho Urban Renewal Law of 1965 on May 18, 1965.
