Boise ‘Heliotrope’ Moves Into Storage Sunday

Word has been out since April that “Heliotrope,” the metal and plant sculpture by Dwayne Carver installed at the intersection of Eighth and Main streets, would be moved from its current location to accommodate construction on the City Centre plaza. Two months later, the foundations of the sculpture have been dug out and telltale plastic construction fencing surrounds the site.
According to Rachel Reichert of the Boise City Department of Arts and History, “Heliotrope” will be moved Sunday, June 15, to a storage facility, where it will remain for the next six months to a year, then to an as-yet undisclosed permanent location near the other two works in the “Eco Art” trio of sculptures along Eighth Street.
But according to Carver, there’s a short list of possible new sites for the sculpture and one in particular stands out, though an agreement with the property owner of that site hasn’t yet been finalized.
“It has a location. Let’s just say that it’s been pre-approved for a mortgage for its new home but it hasn’t signed the final documents yet,” he said.
